Curriculum

Overview
 
The Confluence Academies network of schools strives to provide a high level, high rigor curriculum from preK through high school graduation.  Curriculum is designed by teachers, in collaboration with instructional coaches and Network leadership, with students at the center of all we do.
 
Elementary Curriculum:
 
Math:  Eureka Math is a complete PreK-12 curriculum that carefully sequences mathematical progressions into expertly crafted modules.  Through the Great Minds Organization materials for students, teachers and parents is readily available and free on the their website. Literacy:

Confluence Academies implements the CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts) Curriculum.  CKLA is a comprehensive program for teaching reading, writing, listening, and speaking while also building students’ vocabulary and knowledge across essential domains in literature, history and the sciences.  Based on the science of reading, CKLA is built on decades of early literacy research that demonstrates the importance of wide-ranging background knowledge and explicit and systematic instruction in foundational skills.  https://amplify.com/programs/amplify-core-knowledge-language-arts/

 

Science:  Grades k-5 implement the MySci program of science.  Created by Washington University, the MySci program provides teachers with hands on learning and modern methods of engagement for the teaching of science.  More information can be found on the MySci website:  MySci
 
Social Studies:  Grades k-2 combines the best of traditional social studies experiences, with revised curricula and the infusion of experiential learning.
 
Grades 3-5 combines the resources of McGraw-Hill's Networks program, with the resources provided by Confluence teachers.  Missouri History is taught in 3rd grade, with a focus on US history in 4th and 5th grades.
 
Middle School Curriculum:

Literacy:  Our Middle School implements the myPerspectives literacy curriculum.  A Savvas Learning product myPerspectives an English language arts curriculum for Grades 6–10 that values the perspective of the learner, collectively and individually, and provides next-gen learning experiences that promote higher achievement and develop the competencies needed for college and career readiness. Interactive learning blends print and technology in a student-centered learning, teacher-inspired classroom. More information regarding this program may be found on this website.
 
Science: Grades 6-8 build on the K-5 implementation of the MySci program of science.  Created by Washington University, the MySci program provides teachers with hands-on learning and modern methods of engagement for the teaching of science.  More information can be found on the MySci website:  MySci
 
Social Studies:  
6th grade:  Ancient Civilizations
7th Grade:  World History through the Enlightenment
8th Grade:  US History through the Civil War
 
High School Curriculum:
 
Math:  Confluence's two high schools follow a traditional sequence of math curriculum:  Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus 1.  Both high schools offer dual credit and dual enrollment options at the higher math levels.
 
Literacy:  Grades 9 & 10 implement the myPerspectives curriculum sequence that students begin their 6th grade year.  For grades 11 & 12 both high schools have a traditional sequence of English classes focused around literature and writing.  At the senior level students have opportunities to take AP Language (CPA) or 1818 (GCAA) St. Louis University Dual Credit courses to earn college credit while still in high school.

 

Science: Confluence’s two high schools follow a traditional high school sequence of science curriculum:  Physical Science (CPA)/Freshman Physics (GCAA), Chemistry, Biology, and senior year electives (Forensics, Genetics, Animal Behavior, Astronomy).  AP courses are offered (depending upon the year) in Environmental Science, Biology and Chemistry. 

 

Social Studies:

9th Grade:  US History Post-Civil War

10th Grade:  World History post Enlightenment

11th Grade:  US Government

12th Grade:  Electives
