Old North Academy Students Compete In "Chopped"-Style Cook Off

Old North Academy's Family & Consumer Science Students participated in Chartwells K12 Discovery Kitchen Cook-off in October. They competed against students from Troy Buchanan High School and Union R-XI.

Four teams of four students were presented with a basket of items that included tilapia, romaine lettuce, corn, tortillas, chicken thighs, rice, and two mystery ingredients which were Brussel sprouts and tomatillos. Students had an hour and 45 minutes to plan, prepare, and present their meals to a panel of five judges.

The Old North team created tilapia lettuce wrap tacos with a Brussel sprout and fresh pico de gallo as well as chipotle chicken soft tacos, fresh corn and black bean salsa, garlic rice, and homemade tomatillo salsa with fresh tortilla chips.

Old North students were the only middle school students competing against all high school students. Our scholars wowed the judges and we could not be more proud of them!
